GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION
"Gun violence is a national public health crisis - a priority for this office - and we are working on many fronts to prevent it."
- Mike Feuer, Los Angeles City Attorney
and Co-Chair, Prosecutors Against Gun Violence
Throughout his career in public service, City Attorney Mike Feuer has made gun violence prevention one of his greatest priorities. In the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, he created the Gun Violence Prevention Unit to work aggressively to keep guns out the hands of criminals and kids. Putting adults on alert, he brings charges against parents who do not properly store their guns which later fall into the hands of their kids – tragedies waiting to happen. He has also worked with LAPD to create new protocols to assure that domestic violence perpetrators cannot get weapons, as there is a chilling link between domestic abuse and gun violence with abused women six times more likely to be killed when there is a gun in the house.
In a groundbreaking national effort, Feuer co-founded and now co-chairs Prosecutors Against Gun Violence with Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr. With close to 40 members, this independent, non-partisan coalition is devoted to bringing prosecutorial & policy solutions and gun sense to the epidemic of gun violence. More recently, Feuer joined thousands of other leaders and advocates around the country for the second annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day, participated in the historic March for our Lives and, following the mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida, assembled the Blue Ribbon Panel on School Safety, charged with examining, evaluating and recommending ways to enhance efforts by LAUSD to keep students safe from violence, particularly gun violence, both in schools and surrounding neighborhoods.

"These bills, both called the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, would dictate that if a person can carry a concealed weapon in any state, that person could carry it everywhere in America. This should be a call to action for all Californians concerned about keeping their families safe."
