"Once again, our hearts break in the aftermath of the devastating slaughter of so many innocent people. Today, across our nation, Americans join together to extend thoughts and prayers to the families who lost loved ones, and to the wounded striving to recover. That's essential, but it's not enough.
In the wake of each mass shooting our country's endured, we express collective sorrow--but little changes. Too many firearms, too easily accessible, make it all but inevitable that we will confront more gun violence tragedies, whether a mass shooting, murder by a domestic abuser or a lonely suicide.
The gun violence crisis confronting America cries out for extraordinary leadership. It's long past time that we exercise it."
