Our hearts break yet again this morning with news of the mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. How much longer will the cowardly leadership currently in control of Washington fail to firmly address the gun violence that shatters American lives? The craven refusal to take the slightest step to prevent gun violence enables the next attack and dishonors the memories of the fallen. Thoughts and prayers once more ring utterly hollow without concrete action.
And this horrific tragedy demands that we confront the insidious emergence of anti-Semitism--along with racism, homophobia and other prejudice--once roundly condemned, that now draws comfort from a White House bent on fueling division as a political weapon.
Not another moment can pass without confronting the lethal combination of guns and hate that today assaulted a community simply seeking to worship in peace.
