CITY ATTORNEY FEUER DISCUSSES REACTIONS, PRO AND CON, TO POST ABOUT COMBATING HATE

Updated: Mar 2

LOS ANGELES-- Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer used part of his weekly video address, "Message From Mike," to discuss the strong reactions, both positive and negative, to his talk last week about combating hate.

"In my video message last week, I spoke about how, concretely, we as a community should be addressing the increase in hate crime and similar incidents," said Feuer. "I discussed the importance of promoting solidarity and unity across our City."

"What happened next reflects just how important this discussion is: My message sparked a provocative conversation online. While many viewers supported my message, some did not, and as the weekend progressed a number of extreme voices challenged the idea that we should make the diversity of our city our core strength," said Feuer.

"Those reactions have deepened my resolve to bring L.A. together. As I mentioned last week, I’m convening faith leaders from multiple denominations next week, to focus on steps we can take to unify our city," continued Feuer. "And I’m now working closely with the City’s Human Relations Commission on the same thing."
