CITY ATTORNEY FEUER FILES SUIT SEEKING COURT APPOINTED RECEIVER FOR DWP TRUSTS

LOS ANGELES—City Attorney Mike Feuer announced today that his Office is filing a lawsuit to seek a receiver for the management of two joint trusts between the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

"The action we take today is part of our continuing work to assure ratepayer dollars are spent for the Trusts' intended purposes--worker safety and training," said City Attorney Feuer.

"On behalf of the ratepayers, I urge the Court to appoint a receiver to run the trusts to restore oversight and transparency,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. “This is the ratepayers' money, and they have the right to follow their money."

The suit alleges that due to the actions of the IBEW appointed trustees to the Joint Training Institute and Joint Safety Institute, the organizations have become dysfunctional and a receiver is necessary to oversee the trusts’ activities.
