CITY ATTORNEY FEUER SECURES CONVICTION UNDER STATE’S "REVENGE PORN" LAW

LOS ANGELES – City Attorney Mike Feuer today announced that his office has secured a conviction and jail sentence against a Los Angeles man for allegedly posting nude photographs of his ex-girlfriend online. The conviction is the first by the City Attorney under California’s new “Revenge Porn” statute that was signed into law in October 2013 and prohibits the unauthorized posting of nude or sexual images of an individual with the purpose of causing emotional distress.

“California’s new revenge porn law gives prosecutors a valuable tool to protect victims whose lives and reputations have been upended by a person they once trusted,” said City Attorney Feuer. “This conviction sends a strong message that this type of malicious behavior will not be tolerated.”

Noe Iniguez, 36, was found guilty of three criminal counts including two restraining order violations and the state revenge porn statute following a seven day jury trial. Judge David Fields sentenced Iniguez to one year in jail and 36 months’ probation and ordered him to attend domestic violence counseling and stay away from the victim. Iniguez was immediately taken into custody to begin his sentence.

In December 2013, Iniguez, using an alias, allegedly began posting derogatory comments about his ex-girlfriend on her employer’s Facebook page. In March, 2014 Iniguez allegedly posted a topless photograph of the victim on her employer’s Facebook page which was accompanied by a message that called the victim a “drunk” and a “slut” and encouraged her firing from the company. The victim had previously secured a restraining order against Iniguez in November 2011 after receiving several harassing text messages following the breakup of their four year relationship.

Deputy City Attorney Brad Pregerson successfully prosecuted the case.
