Three years ago, unimaginable horror struck Las Vegas with the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. Nearly 60 people were killed, over 850 were injured and thousands of lives were shattered forever. As we honor the victims today, we also remember the immense bravery displayed by first responders and the deep community spirit of citizens who stood in line for six hours to give blood.
Let us use this day, now officially recognized in Las Vegas as "Vegas Strong Day," to renew our call for lawmakers in Washington to tackle our crisis of gun violence. With gun violence escalating across our nation, continued federal inaction dishonors the memories of all who perished.
