CITY OF LOS ANGELES FILES COMPLAINT REGARDING INITIATIVE

Updated: Nov 13

LOS ANGELES -- The City of Los Angeles today filed a complaint in Los Angeles County Superior Court seeking a judicial determination regarding the validity of an initiative that recently qualified for the June 2014 ballot. If adopted, the initiative would require the City to create its own public health department and immediately terminate its longstanding contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

The complaint alleges that the initiative is invalid as a matter of law for numerous reasons. The City is asking the Court to issue a ruling prior to the June 2014 election preventing the unlawful initiative from being placed on the ballot.
