City Attorney Mike Feuer Statement on the One Year Anniversary of the Las Vegas Shooting

October 1, 2018

One year ago, our hearts broke in the aftermath of the senseless massacre of so many innocent people. We are thinking of those we lost, and of their families, of the hundreds injured and the countless lives shattered and changed forever. We are also thinking of the first responders, the many heroic people at the festival and the thousands who waited for hours to give blood.

But what we said last year rings even truer today: the gun violence crisis gripping our nation demands extraordinary leadership. Yet Congressional leaders persist in refusing even to schedule a hearing on any pending bill that would address gun violence. Their intransigence enables the next preventable tragedy and dishonors the memories of victims.

The American People deserve more than empty expressions of sympathy. It is time to act.
